Since Nelly Furtado and Timbaland released Say it Right it has been one of my all-time favourite music videos. Each frame a considered image and a photograph in itself. So to find out quite a while later that it was actually Rankin who had directed it was quite a surprise (I had an internship with his studio whilst I was at university so have been following his work). Looking back at the video with this knowledge that he directed it, it is now obvious, the imagery is so clearly his.

It is almost excrutiating to watch the 15 minute film documenting the time and effort that went into making Ai Weiwei's Sunflower Seeds now that the way they were intended to be experienced, the whole idea of the installation, is no longer possible.

The Chilean Miners rescue is one of those rare news stories which are followed from the start, and end in the best possible outcome. All 33 miners, alive and released from their cold, damp prison, 700m underground. It is also one of those which the images will become some of the iconic moments of this time.

Incase you missed the 2009 Veolia Environment Photographer of the Year, these are some of my highlights of last years competition.
This years Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year is to be announced on the 21st of October the day before the exhibition opens at the Natural History Museum, London. From the previews, this years photographs look to be the most timely yet and with the BBC's One Show already screening the Junior Winner, I just can't wait for the exhibition to open.
Michigan based videographer, Charlie McCarthy, lives in a beautiful world. The sun shines through leaves which rustle in the breeze, the sun sets with the most fascinating array of colours and even algae moves in a elegant way.

Jamie Livingston took a Polaroid everyday for nearly 20 years. The images chart his life at Bard college in 1979 to travelling, uneventful days, world changing moments and eventually life changing moments. In October 1997 events take a twist and the photographer is seen in hospital. Shortly after the images end.

An interesting commentary by photographer, David Cowlard, on the merging of print and digital media and how photographers and publishers are responding to architectural, technological and wider world news developments.

IKEA have taken their minimalist chic to another level by producing a cookbook with no words. Homemade is Best (Hembakat är Bäst) features ingredients and finished biscuits and cakes beautifully styled by Evelina Bratell and photographed by Carl Kleiner in collaboration with creative directors Staffan Lamm and Christoffer Persson, copywriter Fredrik Jansson and creative agency Forsman & Bodenfor.
The snow and the sky in this image make it. The light reflects off it leaving a crisp blue hue and the sense of calm after the storm. I can imagine being right in that insulated atmosphere.
